Solon Economopoulos was born in Heraclion, Crete in 1976. He obtained his Ph.D. in Chemistry in 2006 from the University of Patras in Greece. His research revolved around the synthesis and characterization of semiconducting polymers, as well as the study of their potential application in organic electronic devices.
Presently, as part of the “NANOHOST” programme, he is involved with the functionalization and subsequent characterization of resulting hybrid materials based on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and carbon nanohorns (CNHs).
The synthetic efforts are geared towards exploiting the CNTs and CNHs electronic abilities for use in organic electronic applications such as photovoltaics and/or biosensors.
